As you may or (may not) realize, Urbanity Studios offers a custom invitation design service. We can do anything from giant posters to very special, unique packaging. A recent custom design project we were asked to undertake was for a retirement party for Dr. Moser. The celebration was for a gentleman who has had an extensive career in the public health field, aerospace medicine and served as a professor, a medical doctor, a director….as you can see this is a very special man and deserved a very special design. When I first met with the party organizers, I was blown away at Dr. Moser’s tenure and asked to see his CV (read: resume). I wanted to incorporate all that he had done and the positions he had filled throughout his career. It was a bit tricky, but I was able to incorporate his incredible work experience dating back from 1962.
The retirement invitation had two sides. The front (when you pulled it out of the envelope) looked like this. Dr. Moser loves to fish so I wanted to give that feeling a little bit within his name. The bottom of the invitation acts as part of the design but also the timeline to his various positions and job titles.

The reverse of the retirement invitation was an inverse of the colors and gave details as to where the party was going to be held and continued the “timeline” from the front. I think my favorite part of the timeline is the last item. It reads, “2012+; Young Lois (his wife of over 50 years) Grandchildren, Fishing, and Consulting.

The response cards has to include what meal choice the guests would like as well as space of stories or comments from folks who were invited but would be unable to join the celebration:

The table cards were a lot of fun to put together as well. They were photos of Dr. Moser and various sayings his colleagues had grown to know over the years. This is one example of how the table cards turned out:

We also created very large posters (32 x 36) with comments and stories from friends and peers to display around the party space. Personalized place cards as well as favor stickers completed our project for the event. I understand that the retirement celebration was a huge success. One hint that led me to my conclusion was the incredible thank you card I received from Dr. Moser himself.
It was a pleasure and I wish him many wonderful days of fishing ahead.
